Walls

Walls

A Norman wall consists of strong outer layers of smoothed and shaped blocks, and a weaker core of rubble infill.  By contrast in a Roman wall the strength lies in the core and the outer layers are merely facings.  In some Norman buildings the walls could be immensely thick and incorporate a wall passage and a garderobe or toilet.
