Hedingham Castle -

Hedingham Castle keep was built in about 1140 by Aubrey de Vere. It stands over 34m high and its walls are immensely strong, being over 4m thick at the base. It is similar to the keep at Rochester and it may have been designed by the same architect – William de Corbeuil, Archbishop of Canterbury. In 1216 Hedingham Castle was besieged by King John.
